Harmony can be seen at all times in my piece of music other than the solos. Abacab is a very fast pace song after the introduction. When the keyboard is in sync with the guitar, the beat is precisely on time and never skips a beat. Multiple sounds from the keyboard is very hypnotizing and I love it. The two instruments show great importance in this piece along with the vocal part of the song. The lyrics match up with most of the sounds in the piece as well as with the drum beat because the drummer plays while singing. I believe the combination serves as a perfect rhythm.

This young man’s ability to play an instrument at this level is insane to me. Playing in front of a number of people at the age of 12 is a nightmare to me. I was always afraid to do musicals and perform in front of people. His mind of genius relates to a brain filled with over 80 years of knowledge. In my opinion, he is a genius to be able to do the things he does. It is also interesting to see him be into Jazz music and not something else like classical or something else, i don’t know just made me think?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. His father was famous for writing on violins. Mozart was a child prodigy for keyboard playing. I see this child in him as a younger celebrity, yet alone to other children so this may have an impact on the way he developed.I found: Mozart: Piano concerto n. No. 21 in C major, K.467 Pollini-Muti, on YouTube and listened to the entire 30 minute concert of this piece and I couldn’t stop thinking about a Disney princess movie. I see most classical pieces of music to be a movie scene or an opening scene to a character.

I like seasons of love because I sang the song in choir a while ago. I did not like the other one due to the pace of the video and the confusion of the story. I notice the vibrato in seasons of love in almost every chorus. It’s a very enjoyable song and easy to listen to. I find listening to familiar songs gives a huge advantage in listening to specific things. Singing the song 1000 times also helps when piecing all the sounds together. In La Boheme, it’s harder to listen and watch at the same time for some reason. Usually I find it easier to watch a music video to a song but this time was different; the story didn’t make much sense to me but the voices of the singers were very well toned and had much experience.

In my piece of music, the volume of the instruments plays a huge part in the song. The beginning of the song is very loud and firm till the piano and beat comes in. It makes the piece become more interesting when after the first ¼ of the song is over because that’s when the dynamics of the song change and intertwined with each other. As the guitar and keyboard go back and forth switching melody with one another, the suspense of another keyboard melody is rising to the middle of the song. The change in timbres may affect the way the listeners feel about the piece because of the dramatic lyrics and drum beat. I feel like the song is at its strongest after the climax of the song in the middle because of the steadiness and ability to control the sounds and keep them contained within the limits of the strength.

Blog #7 Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish sings the song everything I wanted. A very serious song she wrote about a dream she had. she sings “thought i could fly (fly)” echoing as if she was flying in the air. This shows the new technology used in today’s music can manipulate various parts of songs. Another way technology changes the sound of her voice to show text painting is when she sings “i tried to scream but my head was underwater”. The last note of that verse is rippled into pieces as if her head was going underwater. I think this piece of music is very well crafted and sung. She can sing at many levels to tell a very good story.

Listening to these two examples, I enjoyed listening to them. After a long quiet chapel, coming into a classroom filled with music was pleasant. Listening to louder music is usually my type so sitting closer towards the speakers helps my experience too. I don’t think i’m quiet there yet for word painting to help me understand the humor in the music. The difference of language does create a barrier between commonalities. It’s also harder to try to listen to the value of the words while trying to translate the lyrics. Watching the performance helps demonstrate the sounds and melody of the piece.Watching people sing is more interesting than watching lyrics in my opinion.

Abacab- Genesis

Abacab-by Genesis

The beginning of the song starts out very strong with a guitar and drums. The next melody starts with a build up of keyboards. Then goes back and forth between guitar and keyboard.Phil Collins begins singing with the rhythm of the drums. The next melody is him singing and humming with the keyboard. It’s the back and forth at the start of the song that shows flavor and taste from the band. My favorite part is the keyboard and guitar after that with no singing. A new melody is created with a noise that is quicker with the keyboard; The drums then begin to pick up and match with them. The main melody is the keyboard going on and off with the drums which shows strength and the known. It’s one of my favorite pieces by Genesis that keeps a consistent rhythm but changes melody throughout the song like most in this album.

Eagle Dance & Day of Song

Personally I did not like the Eagle Dance because I lost interest very easily. I watched the video a number of times and just wasn’t clicking for me. The beat wasn’t joy to my ears but the one thing I did like was that the dancers were able to time the dance with the drums. The vocal quality sounded very minimal. The video was recorded with no close microphone to the singers. The sounds and words they used were very foreign to me. Seeing the dancers does help some but the understanding of the dance and lyrics are still a mystery.

Listening to this music might be even more confusing if the video was not there. Not being able to see anything is hard for anyone to learn anything. Most people are visual learners.
I did enjoy watching this video. From beginning to end, he kept a smooth beat to please the audience. The vocals are different because of the more connected notes rather than in the Eagle Dance. This music makes me feel more in the present time. The music is like a beat-box. Using the audience to keep a beat also made the music a better sounding harmony.

Star Wars Suite

Melody is an important part in this piece because there’s only certain parts where one instrument needs to be heard. All noises must produce at a certain volume to succeed the movie part. The french horn I especially like because aside from the trumpet, the French horn is my second favorite instrument. The music makes me think of a Star Wars scene that is peaceful and mysterious. I don’t see any villains in this scene or any big action happening. The second piece makes me feel a strong and powerful emotion. I sense Darth Vadar in the scene as he is upcoming from stairs or some sort of opening. Listening to these two excerpts help me relate because they are in fact more modern and I have more interest and liking in movie music than other music. I still do appreciate Hildegard’s music, I just don’t find it as relatable. Music is much more amusing and likable to me if it is familiar; But that doesn’t mean I can’t come around on some classical music! I think all music is good as long as it is well played and timed well. Volume is also one thing I can be picky about and this piece is awesome!
